1-YEAR CERTIFICATE IN FILM ACTING

Do you dream of becoming a film actor who can really break through with amazing performances in front of a camera?

Then our one-year certificate in film acting based on Balcazar Teknik ® is something for you.

Our one-year certificate in film acting alternates between theory, practice, mentoring and coaching, and as the only one in Denmark, we provide professional film production as well. After each module, you will have the opportunity to work with professional filmmakers.

The course will give you a solid foundation of methods within instrumental work, character work, emotional communication, and performance analysis based on Balcazar Teknik ®

The course ends with a professional production of your own creation – showreel. (optional).

How is the Balcazar Technique® film acting course structured?

Certificate in Film Acting – Balcazar Teknik® consists of 4 modules.

Each module consists of:

Classes twice a week from 9.00 – 13.00 according to school calendar
Individual Talent Screening – focusing on development and quality assurance of artistic and technical progression.
Mentoring and Coaching – one-on-one lessons, where we remove personal blockages and work with individual goals.
Collaboration with professional filmmakers.

To ensure the quality of the lessons, there will be a maximum of 6 places available, and you should expect intensive film acting training at an elite level.

ModulE 1:

INSTRUMENTAL WORK (SEPTEMBER-NOVEMBER)

Primary objective:

The actors will learn to optimize their screen presence in front of the camera. Their strengths are defined. Their own emotional landscape and habitual thinking will be explored, expanded and optimized, and they will learn the basics of emotional communication and various tools for presence, centering, strengthening the senses and action.

We will also do some work with the cinematic space and the creation of a performance time in front of the camera.

Talent Screening – Individual – 1 ½ hours. We will begin with a talent screening and goal setting with a focus on optimizing the individual’s instrument. We will set a personal goal based on resources, potential and deficiencies.
Lessons – 8 hours per week of theoretical and practical lessons in Balcazar Teknik® instrumental work.
Mentoring and coaching – on an individual basis 2×2 hours per module. We will work on removing personal blockages and focusing on personal goals through emotional work and individual talent management.

Production: 1-day shoots where we produce professional sketches with a focus on instrumental work. We work with different acting tools in front of the camera as well as body, choreography and collaboration with photographer.

ModulE 2:

Character work (December - February)

Overall Objective:

Actors learn to build strong, three-dimensional characters that resonate with the human psyche and function naturalistically in front of the camera.

In class, actors are given various tools to both build characters and anchor themselves in them to navigate emotional moments.

The aim is to produce vivid and effective acting performances where the actor doesn’t need to touch their own emotional material to produce the emotions in question.

The emotions produced are real, but not their own. Actors learn to work with emotional energy in character, releasing presence, strategies, and “external” emotional resources that serve to release the performance of the instrument.

We also work on expanding each actor’s own color palette.

Talent Screening – Individual – 2 hours. We evaluate the student’s instrumental skills, do talent screening and goal setting with a focus on character work. We clarify a personal goal based on resources, potential and shortcomings.

Teaching – 8 hours a week of theoretical and practical training in Balcazar Teknik® – character work.

Mentoring and Coaching Individually 2×2 hours per module. We work on removing personal blocks and focus on personal goals through emotional work and individual talent nurturing.
Production – 3x 20 sec. PERSONA-stories – vertical films where we focus on character creation and actor transformation. The films are suitable for professional branding and SoMe distribution, including Instagram.

ModulE 3:

Text Work (MARCH - MAY)

Overall Goal:

Actors learn to use their own instrument and the character they have created for the benefit of the text.

The actor is empowered to produce a modelable narrative that corresponds to the psychology of the character. Based on the interplay between impression and expression, the actor gains insight into how to create dynamics and emotional precision in the story’s development and turning points without making the performance seem artificial.

We work with text, emotional communication, direction, journey and dramaturgy.

Talent Screening – Individual – 2 hours. We evaluate character work, and based on that, we do a talent screening and goal setting with a focus on story and action. We clarify a personal goal based on resources, potential and shortcomings.
Training – 8 hours of theoretical and practical training in
Balcazar Technique® – text work.
Mentoring and Coaching – Individual 2×2 hours per module. We work on removing personal blocks and focusing on personal goals through emotional work and individual talent development.
Development and writing of original film texts.

MODULE 4 (OPTIONAL):

SHOWREEL & PROFESSIONAL BRANDING (JUNE-JULY)

Based on the actor’s own scripts and professional branding requirements, we produce a professional 3 minute showreel that allows the actor to showcase their talent and work in a professional context.

PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENT

You are passionate about learning to master film acting and believe in your talent. You can participate in at least 80% of the course.
You have social skills and can commit yourself constructively in a group.
You are ready to step out of your comfort zone so you can learn new things.
You are passionate about going into detail with the whole process – all year round, as registration is binding for the entire course.

APPICATION

To be considered for this course you must send a motivational letter, a cv, and a film (five minutes long) that showcases your skills in front of a camera. It can be a showreel, a self-tape, or a film clip you find relevant and representative of your work.

If you are one of the few selected, you will be invited to an interview before we can offer you a spot.
